Beginner: Beginner Level Hatha Yoga classes offer the student a place to begin. The mysteries of Yoga are removed as we gently begin to learn, and become comfortable with, Basic Yoga postures. Beginning level is also recommended for those who may wish to strengthen the foundation of their practice or who may simply want an ongoing practice that is in harmony with their level of flexibility. The focus is on Classical Asanas (Postures), Alignment Principals and Pranayama (Breathing Techniques). A gentle version of Sun Salutation will be learned.
Chair Yoga: Since there is NO getting up and down from the floor in Chair Yoga, is a wonderful option for those who have mobility issues, arthritis, bad knees or any other physical limitation. The postures and stretches can be adjusted to fit you, you are never asked to push too hard and moving at your own pace is strongly encouraged. In a Chair Yoga class we begin by relaxing back into our chairs, we concentrate on the breath and then gently begin to move, stretch and strengthen the body. We gradually move to standing stretches which are all done
holding on to a chair, we even balance on one foot!…supported by the chair of course!! The class ends with a calming, seated guided relaxation. Wear comfortable, easy to move in clothing, runners or shoes are NOT required.
Intermediate: An Intermediate Hatha Yoga Class will draw upon the knowledge you aquired in your Beginner Classes. The basic Asanas (Postures) will be expanded offering you variations which enable you to deepen your practice. A more vigorous version of Sun Salutation (Surya Namaskar) will be offered as well as challenging Standing Postures.
Flow Yoga: Flow Yoga is really just the way it sounds! We will begin the class with gentle stretches to open and warm the body. The class will them progress through Sun Salutations and various other postures which gracefully flow from one to the other, all done at a comfortable, relaxed pace. Flow Yoga is similar to a Walking Meditation. Some previous Yoga experience is helpful.
